Today, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the filing of 25 felony charges against Darrin Rasheed Martin, 27, from Marion. These charges follow a home invasion and police chase that occurred on July 10th across Wexford and Osceola counties. Martin was arraigned in the 77th District Court in Osceola County.

The incident began when officers from Michigan State Police and the Wexford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Cadillac home after receiving multiple 911 calls about an alleged assault and a reported home invasion. The suspect vehicle, driven by Martin, was stopped by police but he allegedly fled, leading to a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, Martin is accused of firing at officers before crashing his vehicle.

After the crash, Martin reportedly fled on foot into a nearby farm field. Despite commands to drop his weapon, it is alleged that Martin raised his pistol at officers who then fired upon him. He received medical treatment for his injuries on site and at a hospital. The Department of Attorney General reviewed the actions of Michigan State Police Troopers involved in the shooting and deemed their use of force justified.

“These allegations involve not only a home invasion and assault but an extremely dangerous attempt to evade arrest that risked the lives of law enforcement officers and residents across Wexford and Osceola County roadways,” said Nessel. “My Department remains committed to ensuring that those who engage in such brazen disregard for the law and public safety are held fully accountable.”

Martin faces several charges including six counts of Assault with Intent to Murder which carries a potential life sentence, one count of First-Degree Home Invasion punishable by up to 20 years, among other serious offenses.

A bond set at $750,000 cash or surety has been granted for Martin who is scheduled for another court appearance on July 31st.
