A Tuscola County man recently won $500,000 playing the Michigan Lottery's Detroit Tigers instant game. The 57-year-old player, who wishes to remain anonymous, intended to buy a Triple Red 777s ticket but opted for the Detroit Tigers ticket after learning the original choice was sold out.

“I stopped at the gas station to buy a Triple Red 777s ticket, but they were sold out, so I told the cashier to give me a Detroit Tigers ticket instead,” he said. “It was hard to believe when I saw I’d won $500,000, but after looking the ticket over several times, I told myself it must be real."

He confirmed his win at the Speedway gas station on West Caro Road in Caro and later visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. The winner plans to use his earnings to support his family and make investments.

The Detroit Tigers instant game launched in April and has already awarded players more than $11 million in prizes. Each $5 ticket offers winnings from $5 up to $500,000. There are still over $19 million in prizes available, including two top prizes of $500,000.

In 2024 alone, players won nearly $1.8 billion from lottery instant games across Michigan.

Lottery tickets can be purchased at various retailers throughout the state.
