Michigan House Republicans have announced an education budget plan aimed at expanding career and technical education, prioritizing reading and math over Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and protecting girls' sports. The announcement was made on the social media platform X.

According to Bridge Michigan, the state's proposed school funding plan for 2025 comes amid debates about educational priorities, student performance, and parental involvement in schools. Michigan House Republicans have emphasized a return to basics in academic subjects and the expansion of career and technical education (CTE) in response to workforce needs. The proposal is seen as addressing both economic and academic concerns raised by parents and school leaders throughout the state.

The budget includes expanded career-tech education programs, which the Michigan Department of Education reports are increasingly in demand among students preparing for skilled trades and technical careers. Lawmakers highlight that boosting CTE funding will help fill Michigan’s labor gaps and offer more students real-world career pathways. According to the department, CTE participation helps improve graduation rates and job placement for non-college-bound students.

Bridge Michigan reports that the plan sets record per-pupil funding while offering more local budget flexibility. The proposal shifts resources to core academic areas such as reading and math, reduces funding for DEI programming, and contains explicit protections for girls’ sports regarding participation policies. The plan is presented as both fiscally responsible and supportive of student achievement, with leaders emphasizing that all increases are possible without raising state taxes.

According to its official website, Michigan House Republicans are the Republican caucus in the Michigan House of Representatives dedicated to strengthening education, expanding economic opportunity, and maintaining accountable state government. The caucus regularly updates Michigan residents on policy initiatives, legislative progress, and state priorities through digital communications and community outreach. They consistently advocate for policies that support academic achievement, school choice, and responsible budget management.
