Jason Garza, a 45-year-old resident of Wyandotte, has been arraigned on charges related to embezzling over $166,000 from his former employer, Montway Auto Transport. The proceedings took place in the 35th District Court in Plymouth under Judge Joe Barone. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the charges.
Garza faces six felony charges: one count of embezzlement over $100,000 (a 20-year felony), one count of embezzlement between $50,000 and $100,000 (a 15-year felony), one count of embezzlement between $1,000 and $20,000 (a five-year felony), and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
The alleged activities occurred during Garza's employment with Montway Auto Transport in Canton Township during 2021 and 2022. It is claimed that Garza offered customers unauthorized discounts if they paid him directly through mobile payment apps. These payments were allegedly retained for personal use without being remitted to Montway.
Attorney General Nessel stated, “Employees who steal from businesses betray the trust of their employers and their colleagues. My office remains committed to ensuring individuals who engage in embezzlement and fraud are held accountable.”
The case was brought to the attention of the Department of Attorney General by the FBI. A probable cause conference is scheduled before Judge Michael J. Gerou on July 7.
It should be noted that criminal charges are allegations at this stage. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The Department does not provide booking photos.
