Markiese King, a 31-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, faces a six-count indictment following his arrest. The charges include three counts of interference with commerce by robbery, two counts of use and carry of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, and one count of prisoner escape. This information was disclosed by United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr.
The indictment details an alleged robbery on May 20, 2025, at a Dollar General store in Detroit where King reportedly brandished a firearm to demand money from employees. Another incident on May 23 involved the robbery of an Advance Auto Parts store in Warren, Michigan, where King again allegedly threatened employees for money.
King is also accused of escaping custody from the Cherry Health Residential Reentry Center between these robberies. Following his escape, he allegedly committed another robbery on May 28 at an AutoZone in Highland Park, Michigan while armed.
A collaborative effort among multiple law enforcement agencies led to King's arrest on May 30. The Detroit Police Department, Warren Police Department, Highland Park Police Department, FBI's Macomb County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force and Detroit Violent Crime Task Force, along with the U.S. Marshal’s Service were involved in identifying and locating him.
It is important to note that an indictment serves as a formal charging document and does not imply guilt. The government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt during trial proceedings.
Assistant United States Attorney Micah Wallace is handling the prosecution of this case.
