Today, former Norway Police Officer Chad Olson, aged 43 and residing in Vulcan, was arraigned in the 95B District Court located in Iron Mountain. The charges include both felony and misdemeanor allegations related to misconduct during his tenure as a law enforcement officer. This information was released by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

Olson, who served as a Norway Police Officer until December 20, 2024, is accused of misusing his position to access personal contact details of women through police databases. Allegedly, he used this information for personal interactions and developed one sexual relationship with a woman while on duty at the police station.

After leaving the Norway Police Department, Olson allegedly purchased a pistol without obtaining the necessary license and utilized his MCOLES number despite lacking police authority.

The charges against Olson are detailed as follows:

- Two counts of Misconduct in Office, each carrying a potential five-year felony sentence. One count involves alleged malfeasance due to sexual conduct while on duty; the other pertains to misfeasance related to misuse of law enforcement resources.

- One count of Pistols – False Statement on Sales Record, classified as a four-year felony.

- One count of Purchasing a Pistol without a License, considered a 90-day misdemeanor.

This case was referred to the Department of Attorney General by both the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police.

Attorney General Nessel emphasized: “We expect law enforcement officers who take an oath to protect and serve our communities to do so with integrity.” She further commended “the investigative efforts of the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police” and affirmed her commitment "to ensuring those who commit such serious dereliction of duty are held accountable."

Olson's next court appearance is scheduled for June 26 before Judge Julie Lacost at the 95B District Court.
