Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has expressed concern over President Trump's federalization of National Guard troops in California. In a statement, she criticized the President for allegedly creating "national crises" as a reason to use emergency powers.
Nessel stated, "President Trump has repeatedly fabricated national crises throughout this term in office as a pretext for acting with extraordinary emergency powers rightfully, and historically, reserved for true emergencies facing our country." She accused the President of declaring unfounded emergencies on issues like domestic energy supply and global trade deficits to exert illegal authority from the White House.
The Attorney General emphasized that such actions are an "affront to state sovereignty and domestic rule of law" and should not be tolerated by Californians or any Americans. Addressing Michiganders who may plan protests against this move, Nessel urged them to do so peacefully and legally. She advised obtaining permits and demonstrating in lawful areas while avoiding property damage or violence.
"This administration will seek any open door to land federalized enforcement in our communities," Nessel warned. She highlighted the importance of peaceful protests and assured that the Michigan Department of Attorney General is prepared to challenge any unlawful federalization efforts involving their National Guard.
