Remigius U. Onimo, a former pharmacist from Solon, Ohio, is set to face trial in Ingham County's 30th Circuit Court. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced that Onimo faces charges of Health Profession-Unauthorized Practice and Medicaid Fraud-False Claim. These charges could result in up to four years of incarceration and significant fines if convicted.

Onimo previously owned Divine Pharmacy on Livernois Avenue in Detroit and held a pharmacist license in Michigan. However, his license was suspended in January 2020 and remained so throughout 2021. Despite this suspension, it is alleged that he continued filling prescriptions during this period, including those billed to Medicaid.

Attorney General Nessel commented on the case: “The overwhelming majority of medical professionals follow licensing rules and requirements to ensure patient safety. When individuals choose to disregard those standards, my Department will hold them accountable.”

Onimo's arraignment is scheduled for June 11 in the 30th Circuit Court.

The case is being handled by the Attorney General’s Health Care Fraud Division (HCFD), which serves as Michigan's federally certified Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. The HCFD receives a substantial portion of its funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under a grant totaling $5,703,460 for fiscal year 2025, with additional state funding amounting to $1,901,152.

It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations at this stage. The defendant remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court proceedings.
