A Detroit resident, Micale Garland, recently discovered he had won a significant prize from the Michigan Lottery's Lucky For Life game. Garland matched the five white balls drawn on April 28—16, 19, 20, 33, and 40—earning him $25,000 a year for life. He purchased his winning ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.
Garland shared his initial disbelief upon seeing the prize notification: “I have been playing Lucky For Life for a few years and I always buy my tickets online,” he said. “When I saw the email from the Lottery about claiming a prize, I logged into my account and thought I was being pranked when I saw my account balance. It wasn’t until I called the Lottery and confirmed the prize with them that I believed I’d really won. It still feels like I’m living in a dream!”
At age 64, Garland opted to receive his winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of $390,000 instead of annual payments of $25,000 over 20 years or life. He plans to use part of his winnings for travel and save the rest.
Lucky For Life offers players an opportunity to win prizes ranging from $3 to lifelong cash rewards for just $2 per play. To secure the top prize of $1,000 a day for life, participants must match all five numbers plus one Lucky Ball. Matching only the five numbers results in winning $25,000 annually for life. Drawings occur daily at 10:38 p.m., with tickets available both at retailers statewide and online.
