NFIB Michigan State Director Amanda Fisher and Ann Chaffee, owner of Maurer's Sanitary Cleaners in Lansing, addressed the House Select Committee on Protecting Michigan Employers and Small Businesses. They discussed necessary amendments to the Earned Sick Time Act before its implementation on February 21, 2025.

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) advocates for legislative changes to the earned sick time laws. "Time is ticking for the Michigan Legislature to act and pass HB 4002 before small businesses are left with a costly mandate they simply cannot afford," stated Amanda Fisher. She expressed gratitude towards Speaker Hall and Chairman Schuette for prioritizing these changes and urged the Senate to act promptly.

Ann Chaffee voiced her concerns regarding the potential impact on her business and employees. "As a small business I cannot handle this extra financial and administrative burden to my business, but even more importantly, I’m concerned about the negative effect on our employees," she said. Chaffee emphasized that without modifications in House Bill 4002, the flexibility currently offered to her employees might be compromised.
