Northern Michigan University's men's basketball team is set to debut at Vandament Arena, marking their fourth on-campus venue in a year. The Wildcats will face Concordia University Wisconsin this Saturday, November 30, at 3 p.m. The Wildcats, with a record of 3-2, aim to recover from recent losses against top-ranked teams MSU Moorhead and Minnesota Duluth. Meanwhile, the Falcons are seeking their first win of the season.
The game will be broadcast on 100.3 The Point with Casey Ford providing commentary. Fans can follow updates on social media through @NMU_MensBBALL and @NMU_Wildcats.
The Wildcats have experienced significant success under coach Matt Majkrzak's leadership, securing two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and winning the GLIAC Tournament title in 2022-23. Despite player changes, including the loss of Max Weisbrod to Northern Iowa, returning players like Dylan Kuehl and new additions such as Julien Smith are expected to play pivotal roles.
Concordia University Wisconsin has struggled early in the season with an 0-4 record but is led by former Wildcat Casey Verhagen who averages 16.3 points per game.
In preseason rankings for the GLIAC conference, Northern Michigan was placed third behind Lake Superior State and Ferris State.
Earlier this season, NMU hosted Michigan State in a notable exhibition match attended by over 11,500 fans at the Superior Dome Showdown.
