As the holiday season approaches, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has announced the launch of her annual consumer protection campaign. The initiative aims to educate Michigan residents on safeguarding their personal and financial information during this time. The campaign will run from Black Friday through the New Year, focusing on 24 topics related to holiday scams.

Nessel emphasized the importance of vigilance during the holidays, stating, “As we come together to celebrate the holidays, it’s important consumers stay vigilant against bad actors taking advantage of holiday spending and generosity to access personal and financial information.” She expressed hope that the campaign would help residents protect themselves from scams and enjoy a secure holiday season.

The campaign begins with sharing critical information about major shopping days such as Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday. Additionally, new alerts will be issued on various scam-related topics including gifting circles, grandparent scams, travel tips, data breaches, and health and travel club memberships.

Consumers are encouraged to follow the Department's social media pages for updates and subscribe to consumer alerts for timely news. Last year saw the launch of a standalone Consumer Protection website by Nessel's office. This platform provides resources for scam alerts, complaint filing, charity research, renters' rights education, and more. It also features a new logo named Frankie Kaye in honor of former Michigan Attorney General Frank J. Kelly.
