Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has addressed the recent charges related to a non-citizen allegedly voting in the 2024 election. The incident occurred in Ann Arbor, and Nessel emphasized the importance of adhering to Michigan's election laws.

"My office is aware of the Ann Arbor voter fraud allegation and subsequent charges," stated Nessel. She highlighted that "it is the responsibility of each and every resident of this state and nation to adhere to the law, and Michigan election law makes clear that non-citizens cannot vote in our elections."

Nessel assured that her office takes all allegations of voter fraud seriously. "We take all allegations of voter fraud extremely seriously, and the public should expect nothing less," she said.

In response to these charges, the Department of Attorney General has launched an independent investigation parallel to other ongoing inquiries into election-related issues. "As with previous election-law related cases, the Department of Attorney General has commenced an independent, parallel investigation into this matter," added Nessel.

It is important to note that a criminal charge remains an allegation until proven otherwise. The defendant involved in this case is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Additionally, the Department does not release booking photos for such proceedings.
