Northern Michigan women's wrestling secures victories over Algoma and Lakeland

The Northern Michigan women's wrestling team hosted their second home event on Sunday night, securing victories over Algoma and Lakeland. The Wildcats defeated Algoma with a score of 29-5 and overcame Lakeland 30-4.

In the dual against Algoma, Northern Michigan benefited from four forfeits at weights 130, 136, 143, and 155, which awarded them 20 points. Zhivanna Magdaleno contributed to the victory by winning via Tech Fall in the 123 class. Ruby Joseph also secured a win at 170 by Fall. Algoma managed to gain five points in the 191 weight class.

Facing Lakeland, Northern Michigan again capitalized on forfeits at weights including 123, 130, and others up to a total of five classes for an additional score of 25 points. Sharon Leon added to this by winning her match at 136 via Fall. Lakeland scored four points through a win by Tech Fall in the dual at weight class 155.

In exhibition matches that followed the duals, Natasha Kuberski achieved two wins in the heavyweight category (225), while Zhivanna Magdaleno claimed another victory at weight class 123. Alissa Caltagirone won her match in the 143 class, Samantha Chaon triumphed in the weight class of 130, and Mickaela Keane was victorious in the heavyweight category (191).

The Wildcats are set to compete next at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championship in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on December 30th.
