The Northern Michigan University Wildcats are set to face Davenport University in a football match on October 7, with the game scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET. This marks the second consecutive week the Wildcats will travel downstate for their game.

Head Coach Shane Richardson expressed the team's need to improve: "We have a clear lens knowing that we have a lot to work on and we are in a place where we have to shift our mentality to the competitive spirit and confidence it takes to go in there and give ourselves a chance."
In their previous outing, NMU faced Ferris State University, suffering a heavy defeat with a score of 78-3. The Wildcats struggled both offensively and defensively against the top-ranked Bulldogs. Ferris State scored on all eight drives during the first half, while NMU managed only one field goal before halftime.
Statistically, NMU has several players ranking well within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Marinao Valenti ranks fourth in passing yards per game, Tyqaun Cox is sixth in rushing yards per game, Sam Peiffer is tied for fourth in receiving touchdowns, Mitch Larkin leads in total tackles, and Jax Hertel is tied for third in interceptions. Additionally, NMU is noted for being the least penalized team in GLIAC.
Davenport University enters this matchup ranked No. 16 nationally with an undefeated record of 4-0 overall and 1-0 within GLIAC. Last week they defeated Michigan Tech with a score of 28-0. Quarterback Jason Whittaker threw for 150 yards and one touchdown; running back Caleef Jenkins rushed for two touchdowns; Myren Harris added 114 rushing yards.
