In a closely contested match, the Wildcats faced off against Colorado College, resulting in a 4-3 overtime loss. Matthew Romer made a significant impact by scoring twice for the Wildcats, marking his first career collegiate goals and the team's first regular season goal of the 2024/25 campaign. Despite Romer's efforts, including tying the game to force overtime, the Tigers secured victory with a quick goal just 21 seconds into the extra period.
Romer's performance was complemented by Tanner Latsch, who scored on an odd-man rush during the third period. The game saw contributions from Jesse Tucker, Grayden Slipec, Rasmus Larsson, Danny Ciccarello, and Latsch himself with assists. Ryan Ouellette was pivotal in goal for the Wildcats, making 45 saves throughout the match—an achievement not seen since Atte Tolvanen's performance in 2019.
The game's narrative unfolded with an initial power play advantage that allowed Slipec to set up Tucker for an early lead. However, Colorado College responded with a deflected shot late in the first period and took another lead early in the second period through Gleb Veremyev.
Latsch's wrist shot tied it once more before Zaccharya Wilson and Owen Beckner combined to give Colorado College a late third-period lead. With time running out, Romer found the net again to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately for Northern Michigan University (NMU), Noah Laba capitalized on open ice during overtime to clinch victory for Colorado College.
The Wildcats will look to bounce back as they face Colorado College again tomorrow night at 8 PM ET.
