Arthur Ylitalo qualifies for 121st Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Championship

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Arthur Ylitalo of the NMU men's golf team has qualified for the 121st Minnesota Golf Association (MGA) Amateur Championship. He finished tied for second with a score of -3 (69) in his Amateur Qualifying round at Greystone Golf Club in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
The MGA accepted 11 qualifiers and three alternates out of 73 golfers. Ylitalo recorded seven birdies during his round to achieve his score of -3 (69). The full leaderboard and scorecards are available online.
Ylitalo began his round with a bogey on the par-4 first hole but quickly recovered by scoring three consecutive birdies, moving to two-under par. He encountered another bogey on the par-3 fifth hole but responded with birdies on the sixth and eighth holes. A bogey on the ninth hole resulted in an outward nine-hole score of 34 (-2).
Demonstrating resilience throughout the day, Ylitalo countered bogeys on the ninth and fifteenth holes with birdies on the par-4 tenth and sixteenth holes, completing his back nine with a score of 35 (-1), resulting in an overall total of 69 (-3).
The 121st MGA Amateur Championship is scheduled to take place from July 15-17 at the Minnesota Valley Country Club in Bloomington, Minnesota.
