Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has unveiled a new website focused on the Department's efforts in utility cases on behalf of Michigan ratepayers. The website aims to consolidate various sources of information for residents and local governments in one convenient location.
One of the key features of the new website is the Power Outage Credit Feedback & Inquiry Form, which allows consumers to provide feedback on outage-related issues. Attorney General Nessel emphasized the importance of this form in tracking outage trends and patterns to aid in ratepayer advocacy. She encouraged consumers who believe they are owed a credit for a power outage to fill out the form, which is open to both residential and business customers.
In addition to the feedback form, the website offers updated information on outage credit criteria for utilities regulated by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC). It also provides links for residents to participate in MPSC meetings or submit their comments. Furthermore, residents can access the 2023 Utility Performance Report to see how their provider ranks and find answers to common questions through the Frequently Asked Questions section.
Attorney General Nessel, who has intervened in every rate case brought before the MPSC since taking office in 2019, emphasized her commitment to saving ratepayers money and advocating for greater reliability and transparency standards from utility companies. She stated, "It is my hope that this website makes it easier for ratepayers to understand how the utilities work and, more importantly, get involved themselves in opposing the seemingly nonstop barrage of cost increases."
The website, located on the Department of Attorney General utilities page, aims to empower Michigan residents to engage with utility issues and ensure accountability from utility providers.
