Detroit Men Charged with Breaking into Deceased Man's Huron Township Home

On February 16, 2023, Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Carnell Lamont Franklin-Smith, 34, and Benjamin Ulysses Pearce, 29, both of Detroit, in connection with breaking and entering the home of a deceased Huron Township man. Defendant Franklin-Smith is a subcontractor of Wayne State University who currently operate and manage the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office.

On February 15, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., at a residence in the 22030 block of Castelle Drive in Huron Township, it is alleged that the defendants broke into the home and stole multiple items before fleeing the scene. Officers located the defendants on West Road near Beech Daly Road in Huron Township and conducted a traffic stop. Both defendants were taken into custody at the scene.

Carnell Lamont Franklin-Smith and Benjamin Ulysses Pearce have both been charged with one count of First-Degree Home Invasion, and one count of Felony Firearm. *

They were arraigned on February 17, 2023, in 34th District Court. Both defendants were given a $10,000 personal bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 22, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge Lisa Martin. Please request a photograph of the defendants from the Huron Township Police Department.
