Macomb County takes action in response to graphic video of animal abuse posted online

On Wednesday, October 12, 2022, Macomb County hosted a press conference with the Macomb County Sheriff's Office and Macomb County Animal Control to discuss law enforcement’s response to a graphic video of local animal abuse posted online. Officials shared a timeline, updates and the actions being taken to address the issue.

"In this situation, we, along with other advocacy groups, will continue to monitor this case as it makes its way through the criminal justice process," said Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel.

The video was initially brought to the attention of Macomb County through the power of social media. Its graphic nature made it apparent that there was a need to investigate. A preliminary investigation called for three dogs to be immediately removed from the home, including the dog who has become the main focus of the investigation. The dogs are currently under the care of Macomb County Animal Control.

A joint investigation is being conducted by the Macomb County Sheriff's Office and Macomb County Animal Control to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.

Animal abuse is a crime. If an individual sees something, they should say something. Please do not hesitate to contact local law enforcement. Macomb County takes these matters seriously and it will continue to advocate on behalf of all animals.
