Mayor Bowman to take the Polar Plunge with Farmington Hills Police for Special Olympics Michigan

Fundraising event

City of Farmington recently issued the following announcement.

Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King and Farmington Mayor Sara Bowman are joining members of the Farmington Hills Police Department as they gear up to take the 2022 Polar Plunge! The Polar Plunge is held annually at 30+ locations where people brave the cold to raise funds for the athletes of Special Olympics Michigan.

The FHPD Polar Plunge takes place on Saturday, February 12 at the Beach Tiki Bar & Boil on the shores of Walled Lake. The event begins at 10 a.m. with a Check-In and Pre-Plunge Party. Plungers jump into the frigid waters of Walled Lake at 12 noon followed by an After-Splash Bash and Awards Ceremony. Lunch is included for all plungers who raise $100, with drinks and lunch available for purchase for all spectators.

FHPD Dispatcher Shelby Dominick spearheaded the effort and encourages supporters to help the Police Department beat their fund-raising goal and give Special Olympics their best year yet. Local supporters may donate to the FHPD Polar Plunge Special Olympics Fund-Raising Team at https://www.classy.org/team/397337.

“This is another example of the Farmington Hills Police Department giving back to the community,” said Police Chief Jeff King. “We take pride in our participation in the Polar Plunge, and hope that residents will support the Special Olympics by making a donation.”

Those who don’t want to jump into freezing water can stay home and take the Virtual Plunge online, or purchase a long-sleeved t-shirt that says, “Too Chicken to Plunge” and other fund-raising items at https://plungemistore.mystrikingly.com/.

The Polar Plunge is the biggest fundraiser for Special Olympics Michigan. It showcases how people go to the extreme to support the Special Olympics as they strive to create a world that accepts and welcomes every single person regardless of ability or disability. All funds raised by Polar Plungers help Special Olympics Michigan provide year-round training and services to over 22,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state.
