Kent County Sheriff's Office recently issued the following announcement.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, intended to raise awareness and connect individuals and organizations working on domestic violence issues.
Domestic abuse is a pattern of controlling behaviors that can include physical assaults, sexual assaults, emotional abuse, isolation, threats, stalking, and intimidation. These behaviors are used by one person in a relationship to control the other.
We are incredibly thankful for organizations like YWCA West Central Michigan, which provide necessary services, such as no-cost emergency shelters, advocacy resource services, counseling/therapy, supervised parenting time and custody exchanges, and long-term housing. To learn more about the YWCA, including how to donate, get involved, or seek help, visit https://www.ywcawcmi.org/welcome/.
To prevent domestic violence, we must come together as a community. Join us tonight at 7:00 PM on the west side of the Blue Bridge near Grand Valley State University’s downtown Grand Rapids campus for a candlelight vigil to honor lives lost to domestic violence.
