The Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners approved a measure last week that supports ousting Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

The resolution is on its way to the Michigan Legislature, according to The Hill.

On Nov. 18, State Rep. Beau LaFave (R-Iron Mountain) introduced House Resolution 324, which would impeach Whitmer for alleged corrupt conduct and violating the oath of her office.

“Rep. LaFave and the rest of the Legislature have always been interested in working with the governor on COVID-19 and what is best for our communities,” Danielle Branz, LaFave’s chief of staff, said. “After the Michigan Supreme Court ruling, they were again hoping the governor would bring the Legislature to the table and work together. After not seeing that, this was Rep. LaFave’s last resort."

In October, the state high court ruled that about 200 of Whitmer’s COVID-19 executive orders were unconstitutional but she subsequently used the state health department to allegedly circumvent the Michigan Supreme Court and the state Legislature.

“As pleas of Michigan residents continue to be overlooked and the Legislature remains excluded from the equation, I am left with no other recourse than to exercise my constitutional authority by invoking articles of impeachment against the governor,” LaFave said in a statement online. “This is absolutely the last thing I want to do, but I would be betraying my conscience and oath of office to defend the Michigan Constitution by ignoring such blatant misconduct.”

LaFave is calling for the adoption of four articles of impeachment.

“Obstacles may include getting two-thirds of the vote in the Senate,” Branz told Great Lakes Wire.

LaFave is not alone in his desire to unseat Whitmer.

“The following members, Daire Rendon, Beau LaFave, Ryan Berman, Shane Hernandez, John Reilly, incoming legislators Ken Borton Steve Carra Patrick Outman, Sens. Dan Lauwers Lana Theis and a growing list of legislators, and I are calling forthwith for impeachment hearings for Governor Whitmer," state Rep. Matt Maddock (R-Milford Township) posted on his Facebook page on Nov. 15.

"Michigan voters know she has committed the following impeachable conduct: Ignored court orders, violated our constitutional rights, completely ignored due process and the legislature, weaponized contract tracing databases to aid Democratic campaigns, using our kids as political pawns and denied special needs students who depend on the services that occur during in-person classes and caused the unnecessary death of  thousands of our vulnerable elderly who died alone and scared in nursing homes.

"I’ve listed the first things that come to my mind. What did I miss?”
