Central Michigan University issued the following announcement on April 16.

Rupe to lead medical school’s legal affairs efforts

Manuel Rupe, Central Michigan University’s general counsel since 2009, has accepted a position within the CMU College of Medicine as associate dean of legal affairs.

Dr. George Kikano, CMU’s vice president for health affairs and College of Medicine dean, said Rupe has long been a part of the college’s success.

“Dr. Rupe has been integrally involved in every major medical school initiative since its beginning,” Kikano said. “He now brings his exceptional leadership and experience to addressing the increasing complex legal, regulatory and transactional matters that impact medical schools and CMU’s health care enterprise.”

Rupe will begin his new position July 1, and the search for CMU’s next general counsel will begin immediately.

CMU President Bob Davies said Rupe has provided outstanding leadership to the General Counsel Office for over a decade.

“Manuel has helped to move the university forward for many years, and I’m excited for this opportunity for him to utilize his expertise to sustain the College of Medicine’s momentum,” Davies said.

Before joining CMU, Rupe had extensive experience at the University of Colorado’s Academic Medical Center, where he worked with the provost and medical school leadership to create the Colorado School of Public Health — the first public health school in the Mountain West region — in collaboration with Northern Colorado University and Colorado State University.

“I am excited for this next chapter at CMU and the opportunity to advance the medical school’s critical relationships with health care organizations throughout Michigan,” Rupe said.
