The Northern Michigan Wildcats women’s lacrosse team ended its Colorado road trip with a 14-6 loss to the Regis Rangers, who are ranked #16/17 nationally. The match was played in Denver after being rescheduled due to expected snowfall in the Rocky Mountain area. This marked the Wildcats’ third game in four days at elevation.
Northern Michigan, which competes in NCAA Division II as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (official website), started strong by winning five straight draw controls and taking a 3-1 lead early in the game. Despite holding a 9-1 advantage on draws, turnovers allowed Regis to go on a 4-0 run and take a 5-3 lead into the first quarter break.
At one point, NMU narrowed the gap to 4-5 with defensive efforts from Natalie Thomas and Krista Pascavis and solid goaltending by Lauren Esposito. However, Regis closed out the half by scoring six of the last seven goals, including one just before halftime.
The Wildcats dominated draw controls throughout the match, finishing with a 17-3 edge. However, they struggled offensively against Regis goalkeeper Brigit Goetsch, who made 15 saves and posted a .714 save percentage. The teams were nearly even on shot attempts—NMU had 26 while Regis had 29—but Northern Michigan committed twice as many turnovers (16) as their opponent (8).
Josie Lakosky led NMU with three goals and an assist from 15 shots (12 on target), matching her career high for shots on goal. She also controlled eight draws and collected two ground balls. Emily Radke, Hannah Grimm, and Hannah Jabas each scored once for Northern Michigan.
Head coach Lindsey Majkrzak leads Northern Michigan Wildcats Women’s Lacrosse (official website). The program operates within intercollegiate athletics out of Marquette, Michigan (official website). Redshirt senior Emily Radke is among student-athletes returning for this season’s roster (official website).
Looking ahead, NMU will have several days off before traveling again next weekend for games against Ashland on March 13 and UIndy on March 15.
