The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that westbound I-69 Business Loop (Oakland Avenue) in Lansing will be closed between Cedar Street and Walnut Street starting March 2, 2026. The closure is required for utility work under a permit issued to the City of Lansing.
According to MDOT, the closure will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 2, and is expected to remain in place until 4 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026. During this period, traffic will be detoured using southbound Cedar Street, westbound St. Joseph Street, and northbound Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard before returning to westbound I-69 BL (Oakland Avenue). Motorists are advised to expect delays during the project.
“Closing the lanes will ensure the safety of utility workers and motorists,” according to MDOT.
MDOT manages nearly 10,000 miles of state highways and more than 4,800 bridges across Michigan. Its responsibilities also include non-motorized trails, railroad tracks, airports, and other transportation infrastructure as described on its official website. Leadership includes a director along with chief officers overseeing administrative operations and strategic impact (official website).
