The Wayne State University women’s golf team tied for fourth place among eight teams after two days of play at the 2026 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Stroke Play Championship, held April 19 at Stonehedge North Golf Course in Augusta, Michigan. Grand Valley State and Ferris State finished first and second, respectively, advancing to compete for the Medal Match Play Championship later that afternoon.
This result is significant as it positions Wayne State among the top programs in its conference and may influence selection for upcoming NCAA regional tournaments. The team’s performance included Sonia Bayahya finishing fifth overall with a score of 222 (+6), Amiyah Gibson tying for eleventh at 229 (+13), Ting-Yu Kuo placing twentieth with a score of 235 (+19), and Clara Laffitte finishing thirtieth at 249 (+33).
Wayne State’s combined team score was 935 (+71), tying them with Parkside for fourth place behind Grand Valley State (895), Ferris State (899), and Saginaw Valley State (917). The next event on the schedule is the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, April 26. Wayne State was ranked fourteenth in the East Region in recent regional rankings released on April 10.

At finals, all qualified participants will play three rounds before individual champions are named; then bracketed medal match play will decide final placements.
