The Wayne State University women’s golf team completed the first 36 holes of the NCAA East Regional on May 4 at Findlay Country Club, finishing in 13th place out of 18 teams with a score of 659 (+83, rounds of 329 and 330).

This tournament is important for the Warriors as it determines which teams and individuals will advance to the National Championships. The top four teams and top two individuals not on advancing teams will move forward after all rounds are complete.

Head coach Larry Hamilton said, “Day one played tough, a lot of wind, 36 holes and the course was still very soggy from all the rain that it had received. We’re looking forward to today too, and seeing if we could move up a couple spots on the leaderboard.”

Leading Wayne State was Ting-Yu Kuo, tied for 19th overall with a score of +14 (76-82). Other contributors included Sonia Bayahya (T34), Clara Laffitte (T49), and Amiyah Gibson (T78). Findlay led after two rounds with a total score of +29.

Wayne State Warriors Women’s Golf is affiliated with Wayne State University and participates in intercollegiate athletics at the NCAA Division II level within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, according to the official website. The program operates out of Detroit, Michigan.

Depending on weather conditions, play is scheduled to conclude Tuesday with an additional round starting at 9 a.m. The team hopes to improve its standing before final results are determined.
