The Wayne State University baseball team concluded its regular season on May 3 with a split doubleheader against Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. The Warriors lost the first game, which was suspended due to weather and completed the next day, by a score of 13-4 but rallied for a 6-5 extra-inning victory in the series finale.

The outcome finalizes Wayne State’s record at 35-12 overall and secures them the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament. The Warriors will face Parkside as their opening opponent when postseason play begins Thursday.

In game one, Rollins took an early lead before rain interrupted play after four innings. When action resumed, Wayne State mounted a brief comeback with four runs in the fifth inning—highlighted by hits from Caleb Sanders and Ty Garza—but could not overcome Rollins’ offense. Pitcher Gavin Nash started for Wayne State, followed by relief appearances from Will DeMasse, TJ McAllister, Macio Miller, and Carson Tehan.

Game two saw both teams locked in a close contest that went into extra innings. After falling behind early, Wayne State responded with home runs from Sanders and Owen Tuccinardi as well as key hits from Rhett Roeser to take their first lead in the tenth inning. Gabe Nazelli earned his fourth win of the year with four strong innings of relief pitching.

The Warriors compete at the NCAA Division II level within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference according to their official website. The team plays its home games in Detroit, Michigan according to their official website, where they are known as “the Warriors” and represented by mascot W the Warrior according to their official website.

Wayne State previously captured a GLIAC Tournament title in 2010 according to their official website. As they prepare for this year’s tournament run beginning later this week, observers will watch if they can add another championship to their history.
