Congressman Tim Walberg recognized Charles Scott of Coldwater as the Veteran of the Month for May, presenting him with a Congressional Record on May 5 that included remarks honoring Scott’s service.

The recognition highlights Scott’s long commitment to serving both in the United States Army and as Branch County Veterans Service Officer. He served in the Army from 1979 to 1992, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant, and later worked for 22 years helping veterans access care and benefits.

Scott has received several awards over his career, including a Certificate of Appreciation from the Branch County Veterans Board in 2008, Veterans Service Officer of the Year Award in 2013, Patriotic Citizen of the Year Award in 2015, and a Special Tribute Award in 2025. Walberg said, “I am honored to recognize Charles Scott as the Veteran of the Month for May. Charles’ dedication to our country through his years of service as both a member of the United States Army and a Veterans Service Officer is a testament to his strong character. His commitment to ensuring his fellow veterans receive the care and benefits they deserve is an inspiration to our community.”

Tim Walberg is currently serving in Congress representing Michigan’s 5th district after replacing Mark Schauer in 2011; he previously served in Michigan’s House from 1983 to 1999 according to Congressman Tim Walberg’s office. Walberg was born in Chicago, Illinois, holds a BA from Taylor University, and currently lives in Tipton according to Congressman Tim Walberg’s office.

Walberg’s office continues accepting nominations for its Veteran of the Month program recognizing outstanding military service among veterans living within Michigan’s Fifth Congressional District.
