The Michigan Department of Transportation announced on May 1 that it will begin a $3.4 million resurfacing project on US-2 in Dickinson and Menominee counties starting May 11. The work will cover about 10.5 miles from west of the US-2/US-41 intersection in the village of Powers to west of the Dickinson/Menominee county line, with an estimated completion date in late August.
This project is significant for local motorists as it aims to extend the lifespan of the roadway and improve safety conditions. The improvements include asphalt base crushing, shaping, resurfacing, joint repairs, paver placed surface seal, and new pavement markings. The department said that motorists should expect single-lane closures managed by traffic regulators during construction.
According to economic modeling included in the announcement, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support approximately 29 jobs throughout its duration. The work also comes with a five-year materials and workmanship pavement warranty as well as a three-year pavement performance warranty.
