The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has granted a permit to Consumers Energy for utility work on US-127 at Michigan Avenue in Jackson County. The project is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, and is expected to conclude by 11 a.m. the same day.
During this period, motorists can expect intermittent lane closures in both directions on US-127 at Michigan Avenue. Traffic control will be managed by the Michigan State Police. Drivers are advised to anticipate delays while work is underway.
According to MDOT, “Closing the lanes will ensure the safety of utility workers and motorists.”
MDOT oversees nearly 10,000 miles of state highways and more than 4,800 bridges throughout Michigan, as detailed on its official website. The department manages operations across seven regions and employs over 2,800 people statewide. Its responsibilities include maintaining roads such as M, I, and US routes, as well as overseeing bridge maintenance, rail services, public transit programs, aviation initiatives, non-motorized trails, and safety standards (source). MDOT’s mission centers on connecting people and communities through transportation efforts.
