The Temperance Secretary of State office will close for one week as it moves back to its original remodeled location, according to a May 4 announcement. Residents are encouraged to use Michigan.gov/SOS during the closure for most transactions.

The closure affects the temporary office, which will stop operations at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 8. Normal service is set to resume at the remodeled site at 7200 Lewis Ave. at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 18. The remodeling included changes such as a redesigned layout and new rooms for telecom, first aid, public restrooms, and janitorial needs.

During this period, residents can complete many services online using computers or mobile devices. “Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s administration has doubled the number of services available online and now most transactions can be done from computer, tablet, or mobile phone,” according to the press release.

Self-service stations are also available for immediate renewals of license plates, driver’s licenses and IDs in nine languages; the closest station is located in Kroger at 850 S. Monroe St., Monroe.

Those needing in-person assistance may schedule visits at nearby offices through Michigan.gov/SOS or by calling 888-767-6424. Offices in Monroe (1107 S. Telegraph Rd.) and Adrian (1040 S. Winter St.) remain open with regular hours Monday through Friday.

The Michigan Secretary of State handles responsibilities including driver licensing, vehicle registration and election administration according to its official website. It extends these services statewide through various branch offices as noted by the agency, offering options such as online renewals and election support according to state officials. The department operates as a government entity focused on motor vehicle and election management per its website with branch locations across Michigan according to state sources.
