Suspect in custody after Cliff Street stabbing

Battle Creek police announced on May 3 that a suspect is in custody following a stabbing incident on Cliff Street. Officers responded to the 300 block of Cliff Street just before 11 a.m., where they found a 37-year-old Battle Creek man with stab wounds to his chest and under his right arm.

The victim declined medical treatment at the scene but later went to a local hospital for evaluation. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening.

According to investigators, the incident began as a physical altercation between two individuals outside a residence. Officers canvassed the area as part of their ongoing investigation. The suspect, identified as a 31-year-old man from Battle Creek, left before officers arrived but was later located by Kalamazoo Township authorities and taken into custody for Battle Creek police. The suspect reported minor injuries consistent with being involved in an altercation.

Battle Creek officers traveled to Kalamazoo to interview the suspect and complete booking at Calhoun County Jail. The Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
