The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will carry out temporary lane and ramp closures in Port Huron as part of the ongoing Blue Water Bridge plaza expansion project. The closures are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15.
During this period, there will be intermittent lane closures on the eastbound I-94 off-ramp to Pine Grove Avenue. In addition, 10th Avenue south of Pine Grove Avenue will be completely closed to ensure the safety of both construction crews and motorists while paving work is underway.
Preparation work at the 10th Avenue/Pine Grove Avenue intersection, Pine Grove Connector, and eastbound I-94 began the week of Nov. 3. These efforts aim to fully reopen these areas by mid-November. Crews are currently finalizing road work such as top course paving, filling pavement gaps, and approach improvements.
Intermittent lane and shoulder closures will continue as needed in the project area until all tasks are complete.
The first component of the Blue Water Bridge plaza expansion involves relocating exit 275, reconfiguring the Pine Grove Avenue/10th Avenue intersection, and rebuilding eastbound I-94/I-69 near the MDOT maintenance facility. The project also includes installing noise walls along both eastbound I-94/I-69 exits to Pine Grove Avenue and westbound I-94/I-69 Business Loop from Garfield Street south to Black River Bridge.
According to economic modeling by MDOT, this $36.3 million investment is projected to support a total of 346 jobs through direct and indirect employment impacts.
