A Wyandotte resident, Tammy Carvey, has claimed a $100,000 Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery after using numbers generated by artificial intelligence. Carvey, 45, matched four white balls and the Powerball—11-23-44-61-62 PB: 17—in the September 6 drawing. The base prize of $50,000 was doubled to $100,000 through the Power Play feature. She purchased her ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.
“I only play Powerball when the jackpot gets up there and the jackpot was over $1 billion so I bought a ticket,” said Carvey. “I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers and those are the numbers I played on my ticket.
“When I checked the winning numbers, I saw I matched four white balls and the Powerball and knew I had to have won something. Google told me it was a $50,000 prize, so that’s what I thought I’d won. It wasn’t until I logged into my Michigan Lottery account that I realized I added the Power Play to my ticket and actually won $100,000! My husband and I were in total disbelief.”
Carvey recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim her winnings. She plans to use the money to pay off her home and save the rest.
Powerball tickets can be purchased for $2 each at retailers across Michigan or online at MichiganLottery.com. Players may add a “Power Play” option for an additional $1 per play to multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to ten times for a maximum of $2 million. For another dollar per play, Double Play can be added for a second chance drawing with prizes up to $10 million.
Drawings take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m., which can be viewed live at http://www.powerball.com. Powerball is available in 45 states as well as Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
