Javier Mora, a 22-year-old resident of Des Plaines, Illinois, was sentenced on October 9 to a prison term of 12 to 25 years for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old in Cadillac, Michigan in 2023. The sentence was delivered by Judge Jason Elmore in the 28th Circuit Court in Wexford County. Mora had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, one count of Engaging in Child Sexually Abusive Activity, and one count of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime.
According to authorities, Mora initiated contact with the victim through online gaming platforms in April 2023. He then traveled from Illinois to Cadillac where the assault occurred.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued a statement acknowledging the efforts of law enforcement and victim support organizations. “I commend the Cadillac Police Department, Oasis Family Resource Center, the Wexford County Prosecutor’s Office, and our Operation Survivor Justice partners for their support in securing this sentence and providing assistance to the victim and her family,” Nessel said. “My office will continue to hold offenders accountable and ensure justice for survivors of sexual assault.”
Mora was first charged by the Wexford County Prosecutor’s Office in November 2023. He was arrested in Illinois in January 2025 as part of Operation Survivor Justice and extradited to Michigan. Operation Survivor Justice is a collaboration among the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local county prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service aimed at apprehending and returning fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants to Michigan.
