The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close westbound I-94 between I-696 and M-102 (8 Mile Road) in Macomb County to remove a damaged bridge beam at the Frazho Road bridge. The closure is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, and is expected to last until 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 19.

The closure comes after a high-load vehicle struck the Frazho Road bridge over I-94 earlier this month, causing significant damage. Both directions of Frazho Road remain closed at I-94.

During the closure, several ramps to westbound I-94 will also be inaccessible. These include:

- Eastbound I-696 to westbound I-94

- 12 Mile Road to westbound I-94

- Eastbound and westbound 11 Mile Road to westbound I-94

- 10 Mile Road to westbound I-94

- 9 Mile Road to westbound I-94

MDOT has outlined a detour route for drivers. Westbound I-94 traffic will be rerouted via westbound I-696, southbound M-3 (Gratiot Avenue), and eastbound M-102 (8 Mile Road) before rejoining westbound I-94.

"Westbound I-94 will reopen after bridge beam demolition by 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19. MDOT bridge crews will return later this fall to complete additional bridge repairs and reopen eastbound Frazho Road at I-94. Westbound Frazho Road will remain closed until final repairs can be made in 2026," according to MDOT.

Additional bridge repairs are planned for later this fall. Eastbound Frazho Road is expected to reopen after these repairs, but westbound Frazho Road will stay closed until final repairs are completed in 2026.
