The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin demolition work on the Crouse Road bridge over US-23 in Livingston County starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025. The bridge sustained damage after a high-load vehicle struck it on September 25.
The project is scheduled to conclude by 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025. During this period, northbound US-23 will be closed from M-59 to Clyde Road, and traffic will be detoured to exit at M-59. In addition, the eastbound and westbound M-59 ramps to northbound US-23 will be closed. MDOT advises drivers to use alternate routes.
According to MDOT, "This work will replace the portion of the bridge that was damaged."
The department reminds drivers that they are responsible for knowing the height of their loads and that permits are required for vehicles or objects taller than 13 feet, 6 inches on state roads. MDOT stated, "Vehicle-bridge collisions result in serious injuries, significant property damage and major congestion problems. It is important to know the height of your load. If you have questions or need assistance, contact the MDOT Permits Unit at 517-241-8999."
