The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is preparing to transition its current software platform, MiWAM, to a new system called MiUI. The change will affect how employers and third-party administrators (TPAs) interact with the agency's unemployment insurance services.

From November 7 through December 5, several functions in MiWAM will be gradually phased out as the agency prepares for the launch of MiUI. These functions include eRegistration, business transfers, and applications for seasonal employers. A schedule has been provided by the UIA that outlines when specific services will become unavailable in MiWAM and provides guidance on what steps should be taken during the transition period.

Employers and TPAs are advised to review this schedule to understand how and when unemployment insurance tasks must be completed as services move from MiWAM to MiUI.

The UIA recommends that employers and TPAs complete several key actions in MiWAM before the transition. These include confirming the existence of an Employer MiWAM account, reviewing and verifying employer account details such as contact information and payment methods, checking permissions for authorized users, and confirming account administrators.

To help guide organizations through the transition process, the UIA has made available an Employer Checklist. This checklist provides monthly recommendations for actions needed to prepare for the launch of MiUI.

For additional information or assistance regarding the transition, employers can contact the UIA Office of Employer Ombudsman at 1-855-484-2636 and select Option 4.

"Please review the schedule to learn how, when, and where certain unemployment insurance tasks need to be performed."

If there are any questions or if further support is required during this period of change, the agency encourages reaching out directly for help.
