The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has reopened the M-30 bridge over US-10 in Sanford as of Monday, October 13. The bridge had been closed as part of a $7.3 million project aimed at improving the structure and enhancing safety for drivers. The updated bridge now features a 14-foot-wide separated nonmotorized path on its west side, which is intended to accommodate future pathway connections.
While the bridge is open to traffic, MDOT indicated that intermittent lane and shoulder closures may still occur on M-30 and US-10 as crews complete remaining work.
The project experienced delays after beams installed in May were found to have cracks. In response, the beams were removed and replaced with new ones, which were installed in August.
According to economic modeling, the investment in this project is projected to support 70 jobs both directly and indirectly.
