The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin single-lane closures on I-69 in both directions from I-75 to Morrish Road in Genesee County starting October 15, 2025. The closures are intended to allow for the construction of traffic crossovers ahead of a planned bridge improvement project.

This initiative is part of a $33.3 million investment aimed at improving and repairing 15 bridges on I-69 between I-75 and Morrish Road in Genesee County, as well as two additional structures near Sheridan Road in Shiawassee County. The scope of work includes shallow and deep overlays, partial deck replacements, steel repairs, guardrail installation, and approach work. Bridge work is scheduled to begin in early 2026.

The affected counties are Genesee and Shiawassee, with nearby communities including Flint, Swartz Creek, and Lennon. The lane closures will start on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, and are expected to end by Wednesday, November 26, 2025. The overall project is set to conclude in October 2027.

MDOT stated that "the left lane of I-69 will be closed in order to complete a traffic crossover this fall ahead of the bridge work in Genesee County." The bridge improvements will take place over two construction seasons, beginning in March 2026 and finishing in October 2027. Further traffic restrictions related to the project will be announced later.

According to economic modeling, this investment is projected to support a total of 318 jobs through direct and indirect employment generated by the project.

Regarding safety measures, MDOT explained: "Lane closures during this type of work are necessary to provide the safest work area possible for crews and motorists."
