A former bank teller in Troy has been charged with embezzlement and tax offenses, according to an announcement from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Rhodesia Jones, 25, of Detroit, was arraigned in the 52-4 District Court on one count of Embezzlement-Financial Institutions, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, and two counts related to failing to file or filing false tax returns, each carrying up to five years.
Authorities allege that during her employment at PNC Bank in Troy from June 2023 through May 2024, Jones made unauthorized withdrawals totaling about $80,000 from customer accounts. It is also alleged that she did not report these funds on her Michigan income tax returns.
“Consumers must be able to trust those who handle their finances,” Nessel said. “My office will continue to hold accountable those who exploit that trust for personal gain.”
Jones appeared before Magistrate Elizabeth Chiappelli and received a $50,000 personal recognizance bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for October 16.
Officials emphasized that criminal charges are allegations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The Department does not provide booking photos.
