Indian Trails, a bus company based in Owosso, Michigan, has been named the best bus service in the United States for 2025 by USA Today. The company was the only Michigan-based service to appear on the list, surpassing several other national carriers.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) acknowledged the recognition and highlighted its collaboration with Indian Trails. Jean Ruestman, administrator of the MDOT Office of Passenger Transportation, stated, "We are proud to have an exceptional partnership with Indian Trails. Only through first class transportation professionals, such as Indian Trails, can MDOT achieve its vision to provide Michiganders with a safe, interconnected multimodal transportation network with equitable options. I applaud Indian Trails for their outstanding achievement."
Indian Trails operates one of the largest and most modern fleets in Michigan. The company’s buses feature technology aimed at passenger safety and environmental sustainability. Indian Trails serves 80 towns across Michigan and works with MDOT to provide service on five state-supported routes. The company also runs the Michigan Flyer airport shuttle, connecting East Lansing, Whitmore Lake, Ann Arbor, and Detroit Metro Airport.
Chad Cushman, president of Indian Trails, commented on the award: "Generations of Indian Trails employees truly earned this honor by operating a top-notch bus transportation company for more than 115 consecutive years. We must also thank the nearly 1 million loyal passengers who rely on us each year to carry them safely to their destinations, as well as the partner agencies, MDOT and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, who support our routes connecting rural communities."
