William Gramme sets records as CCHA names him Goaltender of the Week

William Gramme, goaltender for the Northern Michigan Wildcats, has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Goaltender of the Week for October 3-5. This marks Gramme’s first time receiving this honor.

Gramme achieved a .947 save percentage over the weekend, stopping 107 out of 113 shots during a season-opening series against No. 15 UMass. On Saturday, he recorded 65 saves, setting a new career high and breaking the Northern Michigan University (NMU) program single-game record that had stood since 1984. The previous record was held by John Corrigan with 57 saves against Boston College on December 8, 1984.

His performance on Saturday also marked the second-most saves in a modern NCAA regulation game since 2004 and was the highest by a collegiate goaltender since Jocelyn Guimond made 66 saves for RIT in a win over St. Lawrence on October 10, 2005. In his first start for NMU, Gramme made 34 saves in the opening period, surpassing another program record for single-period saves previously set by Craig Kowalski in 2003.

On Sunday, Gramme stopped an additional 42 shots, bringing his total to 107 saves for the weekend. This set a new NMU record for most saves in a weekend series, surpassing Jeff Poeschl’s mark of 92 from January 1984.

Following his performance in the opening weekend of play, Gramme leads all NCAA goaltenders in total saves and holds a .947 save percentage among goalies who have faced at least 69 shots.
