The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin substructure repairs on the M-123 overpass at I-75 in Mackinac County starting October 9, 2025. The project, with an investment of approximately $500,000, is intended to address additional pier repair needs following a rebuilding effort completed last year.
According to MDOT, "This work will extend the lifespan of the structure and increase safety for motorists." The repairs are expected to be completed by November 14, 2025.
During construction, the right lane of northbound I-75 at the overpass will be closed using a concrete barrier wall. There will be a 12-foot lane width restriction and drivers should observe a posted speed limit of 60 mph, reduced to 45 mph where workers are present.
MDOT noted that economic modeling suggests this investment will support five jobs both directly and indirectly.
The closest community to the construction site is St. Ignace. The agency emphasizes that these repairs aim to maintain safe travel conditions and prolong the life of the bridge infrastructure.
