Jason Garza, a 45-year-old resident of Wyandotte, has been ordered to stand trial in Wayne County's 3rd Circuit Court on ten felony charges. The charges stem from allegations that he embezzled more than $166,000 from his former employer, Montway Auto Transport, based in Canton Township. The announcement was made by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

Garza faces one count of embezzlement of more than $100,000—a crime carrying a potential 20-year prison sentence—as well as one count of embezzlement between $50,000 and $100,000 and another between $1,000 and $20,000. Additional charges include three counts related to using a computer to commit these crimes and four counts for failing to file income taxes.

According to the allegations, during his employment at Montway Auto Transport in 2021 and 2022, Garza offered unauthorized discounts to customers who paid him directly through peer-to-peer mobile payment applications. He is accused of keeping these payments for himself instead of passing them on to the company.

"Employees who steal from businesses betray the trust of their employers and their colleagues," said Nessel at the time of Garza’s arraignment. "My office remains committed to ensuring individuals who engage in embezzlement and fraud are held accountable."

The case was referred to the Michigan Department of Attorney General by the FBI. Garza is scheduled for his next court appearance on October 21.

It is important to note that criminal charges are only allegations at this stage; Garza is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The Department does not provide booking photos.
