The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that M-90 at the North Branch Flint River bridge in Lapeer County will be closed overnight on Thursday, September 25, for deck pouring. The closure is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and last until 5 a.m. the following morning.

This closure is part of a $3.5 million project aimed at improving M-90 from M-24 to the west village limit of North Branch. The project includes resurfacing, installing centerline rumble strips, updating pavement markings, and several bridge-related repairs such as resurfacing, painting, scour protection, substructure repair, deck patching, railing repair, silane treatment, guardrail improvements, and approach work.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer commented on the ongoing roadwork across the state: "Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely," she said. "By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. This year, let's build on our momentum to pass a bipartisan local road funding plan so we can keep fixing our damn roads and creating good-paying, local jobs."

During the closure period, traffic will be detoured via M-24 (Lapeer Road), Burnside Road and Fish Lake Road. MDOT notes that all work is weather dependent.

According to economic modeling by MDOT, this investment is expected to support 33 jobs directly and indirectly. The department also states that these improvements are intended to extend the lifespan of the structures involved and enhance safety for motorists.
