The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced a temporary detour on M-32 (Washington Avenue) in Alpena for maintenance work. The project involves adjusting manhole covers between Ripley Street and 2nd Avenue.

According to MDOT, the detour will be in effect from Wednesday, September 23, 2025, through Friday, September 26, 2025. During this period, through-traffic on M-32 will be rerouted via 11th Street and US-23 (Chisholm Street). Local businesses and residences will remain accessible throughout the maintenance.

"This project will improve the ride quality of the roadway," stated MDOT.

The work is expected to enhance road conditions for drivers in the area.
