The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close westbound I-94 at the Airport Road bridge in Jackson on Friday night, September 26, for a partial bridge demolition. The closure is necessary to replace beams that were damaged by a high-load strike on April 11.
According to MDOT, the closure will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and is expected to end at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 27. During this time, crews will demolish and remove the damaged beams from the Airport Road bridge.
MDOT advises drivers to expect delays and use alternate routes while the work is underway. "This portion of work will require closing westbound I-94 Friday night for demolition/removal of the damaged beams on the Airport Road bridge," MDOT stated.
The $1 million project is projected to directly and indirectly support about 10 jobs through economic modeling. The main safety benefit of this work is replacing the part of the bridge that was damaged.
